Immersive Screening film Bring Back the Birds

In samenwerking met Sluislab's Fototentoonstelling "Waar zijn we hier eigenlijk?" is er de Immersive Screening van de film Bring Back the Birds. Vanuit het Professional Doctorate project van Kim Spierenburg zijn de muziek en de korte experimentele film Bring Back the Birds gecreëerd waarin onze omgang met de natuur in de Sluisbuurt en de gevoelens rondom dit onderwerp uit gesprekken met bewoners verwerkt. Bring Back the Birds is gemaakt met archiefbeelden van o.a. de Sluisbuurt en Zeeburgereiland die zijn geanimeerd door middel van AI.
Na de Immersive Screening geeft Karel Koch, lablead van Sluislab en initiator van de tentoonstelling een rondleiding. Meld je hieronder ook aan voor de rondleiding!
Data en tijden: 12 maart, 19 maart en 26 maart 2025 om 12 uur. De film duurt vijf minuten en we verzamelen in de hal van Inholland, Pina Bauschplein 4, bij de ingang.

Voor Hogeschool Inholland is de Sluisbuurt op Zeeburgereiland haar nieuwe en nog onbekende plek in de stad. Sluislab neemt je de komende weken daarom mee op een visuele ontdekkingstocht tijdens de tentoonstelling Waar zijn we hier eigenlijk? Aan de hand van achttien bijzondere foto’s, zes verhalen en twaalf historische kaarten maak je kennis met de wonderlijke geschiedenis van het eiland in het IJ dat nog geen 125 jaar bestaat.
Sluislab: dit is het moment om onze ideeën over experimenterend leren en ontwerpend onderzoeken in de praktijk brengen, op een plek waar nog niet alles is ingevuld. Dat doen we vanuit het Sluislab, waar studenten, docenten en onderzoekers samen met de eilanders bouwen aan een leefbare stad. Terwijl de wijk groeit, onderzoekt het lab de maatschappelijke vraagstukken die zich daarbij voordoen.
Kim Spierenburg: artistiek onderzoeker, componist en filmmaker. Haar werk is vertoond op talloze internationale filmfestivals. Als onderzoeker en kunstenaar creëert Kim verhalen en verbeeldingen rond complexe zaken. Binnen haar onderzoeksproject As Waters Rise creëerde ze muziek, een installatie en de films Water Nation (2023), Underwater (2023) en Bring Back the Birds (2024) rond het thema klimaat anxiety. Momenteel werkt ze als onderzoeker bij het Lectoraat Inclusion and the Creative Industries van Hogeschool Inholland en is ze bezig met een Professional Doctorate.

In collaboration with Sluislab's Photo Exhibition ‘Where are we?’ is the Immersive Screening of the film Bring Back the Birds. From Kim Spierenburg's Professional Doctorate project, the music and the short experimental film Bring Back the Birds were created incorporating our relationship with nature in the Sluisbuurt and the feelings surrounding this topic from conversations with residents. Bring Back the Birds was made with archival footage of the Sluisbuurt and Zeeburgereiland, among others, and then animated through AI.

Photo exhibition ‘Where are we?’

For Inholland University of Applied Sciences, the Sluisbuurt on Zeeburgereiland is its new and as yet unknown location in the city. Sluislab will therefore take you on a visual voyage of discovery in the coming weeks during the exhibition Where are we actually here? Through eighteen special photos, six stories and twelve historical maps, you will be introduced to the wonderful history of the island in the IJ, which has existed for less than 125 years.
Sluislab: this is the moment to put our ideas about experimental learning and design-based research into practice, in a place where not everything has been filled in yet. We do this from the Sluislab, where students, teachers and researchers work with islanders to build a liveable city. As the neighbourhood grows, the lab investigates the social issues that arise in the process.
Kim Spierenburg: is an artistic researcher, composer and filmmaker. Her work has been shown in numerous international film festivals. As a researcher and artist Kim addresses and creates narrarives around complex matters. With the music and films she makes, she explores eliciting emotional reactions. Within her ongoing project As Waters Rise she created music, an installation and the films Water Nation (2023), Underwater (2023) and Bring Back the Birds (2024) around the topic of climate anxiety. She currently works as a researcher at the Lectorate Inclusion and the Creative Industries at Inholland University of Applied Sciences and is doing a Professional Doctorate.
